We awoke Saturday monring to the sounds of healthy v8 engines running on race gas. The Gorilla run was on! We made our way over to the course. It was huge! It had to have been 150 yards long. You couldn’t see the top from the bottom or visa versa. The competitors drew their starting order as the hillsides filled with huge crowds of spectators. The course was designed with rockcrawlers in mind. It showed when the first few rock bouncers hit the bottom of the course. They were hard on the throttle, flipping over, breaking transfer cases. It was insane! Tim Cameron made it up the entire course but too many backups on the final ledge cost him time. Tim Bacon finished the course with three flat tires begging for mercy! Bobby Tanner flipped over twice at the bottom section of the course but eventually finished for the crowd. When all was said and done Mark Simpson took home the cash with the fastest time in Timmie’s old Jenny Craig Buggy.
the park just for this event and no one was allowed on it until it was showtime. The few fearless drivers drew numbers for position. A smile ran across Tim Cameron’s face as he drew the first running position with Wes Kean right behind him. The crowd went nuts as companies and spectators added to the money pot. CSC Fab even through in a custom built Chassis to the guy who climbed the rediculous hill. The pot ended up somewhere around Nine Thousand Dollars in cash and prizes. One kid even donated $21.00 of his allowance towards the winner. It was pure mayhem as Tim Cameron lined up his Hill Killing buggy at the base of the hill. After a few test runs to get his line he nailed the throttle and launched high in the air above the near vertical rock face of the climb. He landed and backed down to give it another go. This time he hammered down and let out just at the right moment to get less air and as soon as he landed he was back in the gas working the rear steer back and forth top propel him to the top. The crowd went absolutely nuts! Tim Cameron had conquered the superlift bounty hill on his second attempt! Many more buggies tried the nasty hill. Ethan Tanner had the hill beat when his motor acted up. It died at the top and without brakes he flew back off the hill only to hit a tree and completely rip the front axle out from under his buggy. Bobby Tanner gave it a few good attempts as did Jordan. A toyota buggy even gave it his all. The action went on into the dark hours of night as every went back to camp to enjoy dinner and a live band. What a Great Event. Be sure to check out all of the videos below!
There is something different about the King of the Hammers. Maybe it is the tens of thousands of fellow wheelers that help turn this empty lakebed into a city for one week a year. Or the fact that you won’t find a stranger in Hammertown. Like many people I spent the first few years drooling over the live race feed via the internet. I finally decided in 2010 that Busted Knuckle Films had to make an appearance at KOH. We purchased our plane tickets, booth, permits, yadda yadda. It was a great time spent with thousands of fellow wheelers and vendors. It only took one trip out to Johnson Valley before we decided that as long as they were racing Busted Knuckle would be there to cover the action!
For 2011 we decided we would make the 4000 mile round trip from Alabama to California. I decided that the 1/2 ton chevy wasn’t going to cut it. So a few weeks before we left I purchased a 02 Superduty with the 7.3 deisel and over 200k on the clock. Me and Jamin loaded everything up The Tuesday Night before Race week. Two Racing quads, a dirt bike, and a ton of offroad swag filled our enclosed trailer aka “The Swag Wagon”. We left out early Wednesday morning and embarked on our epic road trip. Me and my co driver swapped driving duties every tank of fuel. Which with the 7.3 Diesel averaging 70mph was about 300 miles. We quickly made our way through each state. Mississippi, Tennessee. Once we crossed into Arkansas the GPS might as well of said “Continue on I-40 FOREVER!” LOL. We made it to Okalahoma around dark. Once the Coffee and Energy drinks started to wear off, the descision was made to stop for a quick siesta. A rest stop in Texas seemed like a great spot at 3am. After 2hrs of sleep the sun started rising and we continued on our journey across Texas. We passed through New Mexico and on to Arizona. We arrived in flagstaff, Arizona around 2pm. We booked a hotel room and slept
for a few hours before heading to the local pub for some dinner and a brew to end the day.
We jumped back on the road around 4am the folowing morning with 4″ of fresh snow on the BK tow rig and trailer. We were dead set on making it to Hammertown before Dark. The truck and trailer quickly made it through the rest of Arizona. The Cracker Barrel in Albuquerque, NM was our first stop and just in time for them to open. After a belt stretching country boy breakfest we were off to the desert. We crossed into California and went through the check point. A quick look in our trailer to make sure we were smuggling DVDs and Swag & not narcotics and illegals and we were on the home stretch. We arrived in Hammertown around 3pm on Friday afternoon. We wasted no time unloading the toys and heading out for some riding. We had finally made it to the otherside of the Country and our home for the week! We crossed 9 states and drove over 2000 miles to get here and for this one week a year, there is no place I would rather be.
Stay Tuned for Part 2 of our epic adventure!
150 Racers started this brutal one day off road race and only 49 finished. Carnage was inevitable for many but some scraped by and finished. Erik Miller is your 2012 King of the Hammers and is bringing the Crown back to the East Coast.

We have been itching at the chance to make it out to one of the biggest off road events in Tennessee. Dixie Run is ran by the Southern Four Wheel Drive Association and has been held annually for over 25 years! We pulled in to Golden Mountain Park on Thursday afternoon. It is nestled in the Sparta, Tennessee hills. We were amazed at how well built this park is. It looks like it used to be a big amusement park. We drove up the gravel drive past the dirt circle track and up the hill to the main pavilion between the ponds to setup the Busted Knuckle Booth. We got everything unhooked and headed for a near bye hotel about 20minutes away.
caught up with Adam Woodlee of Wide Open Design and Nazir Adam who owns the infamous Blower Buggy. They were getting ready to head out for a trail ride. Nazir asked me how I was getting around. I pointed at my 400EX and laughed. He chuckled and yelled “nope your riding with me”. Without hesitation I hopped in the 830hp supercharged monster and we were off. The buggy has PCI Race Radios so you can talk and not be deafened by the throaty exhaust. We did some mild trails and I got out from time to time to catch some of the action. The new 42″ BFG Krawler stickies wrapped around 20″ beadlocks stuck to everything. He made the new “crackhead” obstacle look like it was nothing. The sun started to go down and the weather started to get cold. The cold weather was no match for the heated seats in the blower buggy. We got back to camp and I climbed out and headed back to the hotel.
Saturday morning is the main day at Dixie Run. There was a competition for all rigs. It was on a course right off the main drag. Competitors had to start the course facing down hill and back up and spin around before they could begin. They then went up a ledge at the bottom and had to make a loop at the top choosing to either go up a nasty climb for a bonus or go up the easy line and come down the nasty ledge. A Toyota Truck on 38″ tires started the show by showing all the big dogs that he could one shot the nasty ledge at the top of the hill. All of the competitors made the nasty ledge at the top. Some took more attempts than others but the action was great! The Rancho buggy had all kinds of bad luck after Running out of gas trying to get to the start line (they will never let him live that one down). He broke a driveline on the crazy ledge at the top after a few throttle happy attempts and had to be winched. Adam Lee put on a show in his new 4 wheel steer buggy and had the fastest time of the day.
went crazy! Jake feeding off of the adrenaline strapped on a helmet and went for round two. His second attempt ended with the Jeep on its side. He was recovered and back down the hill for Adam Woodlee to give it a try in his KOH buggy. Adam is a Bounty Hill Veteran and has climbed it multiple times. After getting lined up just right he launched his LS powered buggy hard up the near vertical rock face. SNAP! Something let loose in the rear 14bolt axle. He was done for the day. PJ Mallory was up next in his FJ40 skinned buggy. He had already climbed the obstacle the day before and was ready to show off this time in front of a crowd. He wasn’t so lucky this time. After lining up with his rear steer he launched his buggy hard with his Maxxis tires scratching for a grip. He slides sideways and rolls over onto his side. Nazir Adam (the owner of the Blower Buggy) has been watching everything unfold from the drivers seat of his 830hp Rockwell endowed Blower Buggy. He sikes his self up and gets ready for battle. The Buggy is stripped of its skins and readied for battle. Nazir and his co driver throw on
some helmets and pull up to feel out the rock wall that is Bounty Hill. He gives a few good launches and warms up the 42″ sticky Krawlers. Adam Woodlee guides him into position. In one fluid motion Nazir grips the wheel and stabs the throttle the krawlers are no match for the heart pounding horsepower. They lose grip at the top and throw the rig sideways into a roll. When the dust clears Nazir and his Co Driver are high fiving. They line up to give it another try. This time Nazir stabs the throttle and loses traction at the top of the rock face which this time throws them right into a roll. They once again land on all fours. Thats it. Four rigs came to try and tame the beast that is Bounty Hill and they all leave with an adrenaline infused memory and a few new scratches and dents. What a great end to and epic day. We all headed back to the pavilion where food was served, prizes raffled, and awards were given.ROCK CRAWL COMPETITION
The best Helmet Cameras PERIOD!
Timmie Cameron goes through buggies the way drag racers go through tires. He will build one and drive it for a while. If he doesn’t like the way the rig feels it will be for sale in a blink of an eye in favor of a new build. Timmie built the Hell Raiser buggy to be fitted with Rockwells. He hated the weight of the beefy axles. So he ripped out the drivetrain and sold the buggy after only one ride. He missed the light weight response of his Green Goblin buggy and decided to build another light weight rig with plenty of ponies under the engine cage.
Choccolocco ORV in Jacksonville, AL during the Bama Buggy Bash event. Tim walked up Violater like it was nothing. He did however burn up the trans on WFO. He said he will get the powerglide built to handle the abuse and be back to kill some hills in no time. Timmie says he loves the new rig, so don’t expect to see a for sale thread any time soon. Keep checking back as we will be adding videos to this page. If you are a big Tim Cameron fan be sure to check out our DVD entitled “RockRods” which features a few of Timmie’s full throttle beatdowns. There will also be plenty of the new Showtime Buggy in RockRods 2 which will be available in November! Until next time, Keep that throttle matted and those tires smoking!
