Fall for All 2011 – We send Gray Rock out with a Bang!

Posted by: Matt | Comments (0)
Friday, October 28th, 2011

We hate to hear it but Fall for All is last big event at Gray Rock ORV for at least a year. The event is usually the biggest of the year bringing in rigs and drivers from all over the south. Fall for All 2011 was one for the books. Drivers were going all out knowing they might not get a chance to wheel Gray Rock again. Big name obstacles like Cable Hill and Tub Rock for many make this park the wheeling mecca of the South.

The day started off as it always does with tons of the baddest buggies in the South rolling in. Everyone got unloaded and we headed out to the first trail, Tub Rock. It was dry and even the Rail Buggies were making it up it. This didn’t keep the buggies from putting on a show. Bobby Tanner stabbed the throttle in his Coleworx built Screaming Blue buggy and never let out until he was out of sight. Ritchie Keith wheelied up it in the John Deere Buggy and Garry Smith aka Super Garry went up it in reverse. The obstacle was a great warm up for the drivers and the rigs. Once everyone had their fill we headed over to Big Egg.

Big Egg gets its name from a huge egg shaped rock at the bottom of the trail. Once you get past it the trail splits off 3 ways. The middle line being the hardline. Chris Smith started off the show with his new Burple buggy. He was hard on the gas, got a little crazy, and ended up on his lid over on the left trail. This Obstacle was tough wet or dry. A few other rigs broke on their attempts. Bobby Tanner walked right up it without hardly hitting the gas. After a booing crowd he went back to the bottom and put on a show with a full throttle attempt. Jordan Tanner throttled up the middle ledge with his Screaming 2 buggy. Tim Cameron and Trenton Park were the last 2 buggies to conquer the climb before we all headed over to Bunny Slope 3.

Don’t let the name fool you. Bunny Slope 3 is one of the most difficult trails Gray Rock ORV has to offer. It has one huge undercut ledge half way up that is bigger than most of these buggies. The trick is to climb the right side of the trail and get your front tires on top of this ledge. Then back up and give it all you got. 14 year old Hadden put on a show as he stood his buggy up on 2 wheels. Man to be 14 this kid can drive with the best of them. He kept his composure backed off the ledge and flopped it on its side. The crowd uprighted his buggy and as soon as the buggy cranked he had the throttle matted and when the dust cleared he was sitting at the top of the trail. Tim Cameron one shotted the obstacle on his first full throttle attempt breaking his second RCV Axle Shaft of the day. Travis Lovett broke in his new Sosebee built Hitman Buggy on its lid after some serious throttle jockeying. He shouted out ” I didn’t build it to look at”. Jordan Tanner shatter an RCV on his attempt at the nasty undercut ledge. Adam Woodlee did a wheel stand roll over and landed right back on his tires facing down hill so he kept on driving as the crowd cheered. Next stop was the infamous Cable Hill.

Cable Hill is the most well known obstacle in the South. Many rock bouncers measure their new buggy builds by whether or not it can make it up Cable Hill in one shot. Lack of Rain had left the once insanely slick Cable Hill dry as a bone. John G took his 38 special show rig up it like it was nothing. The extra traction didn’t keep the Rock Bouncers from putting on a show. Tim Cameron started it by riding the top of the 8 foot gully in his Showtime Buggy only to snap the driver side front wheel and tire off at the knuckle. This was the most insane carnage I had ever witnessed. Tyler Rogers pinned it to win it and wound up climbing a tree in his Yellow Buggy. The Grand Finale to the event was something I never expected. Peter Basler hit the gas in his LS3 powered BTF buggy at the bottom and never let off. He came flying up Cable Hill and hit the final ledge with enough speed to back flip his buggy onto its lid! With the trail blocked and the Trackhoe needed for recovery every one loaded up their rigs and got ready to drive home with a parts list in their head of what needed repaired or what parts they needed to upgrade before the next ride.

Gray Rock ORV is one of my favorite parks. I hate to see it go, even if it is only for a year. It is being shut down so they can mine part of the park for coal. I have been told that all of the major obstacle will stay, but only time will tell. At least we sent it out with a bang.

Peter Basler’s insane Cable Hill Back Flip!

Tim Cameron’s insane Showtime Carnage on Cable!

How to Videos for Young’s Plant Farm

Posted by: Matt | Comments (0)
Tuesday, June 14th, 2011

We were contacted by Young’s Plant Farm to help them with some how to videos to post up on the Young’s Youtube Page. Young’s is a family owned company located in the plains of Auburn, Alabama. They are a big player in the commercial plant growing market and sell plants to large retail stores like Lowes and Home Depot. The main goal of the  videos is to help reach out to people that enjoy gardening and spread the knowledge gained from being around the plant business for more than 50 years. The videos were made into a series. This first series would be all about container gardening. The great folks at Young’s wrote out the script and chose a great location within their Greenhouse to film the videos. We filmed the how to videos and got some shots around their facility for the intro in a one day shoot. Took a week to edit everything together and delivered their videos on time and well within their given budget. We even uploaded the videos straight to Youtube for them. We have posted the videos below for your enjoyment. If you are interested in how to videos or a professional commercial for your company we have what you need. We can take care of any media needs your company might have and are able to cater to almost any budget. Contact Us for a FREE Quote today!

Barbie Jeep Racing in Auburn Alabama

Posted by: Matt | Comments (0)
Monday, May 2nd, 2011

The largest barbie jeep race in history went down this past weekend in Auburn, Alabama during the 1st annual ECORS race at the Great American Park. People came from all over with their plastic chariots. If you are not familiar with barbie jeep racing, it is a fast growing sport that is taking over the Southeast. Grown men and kids a like find old power wheels vehicles and modify them for downhill racing head to head. Racing these toys turned race vehicles is a huge rush. The best part is they can usually be had for very cheap or even FREE. People have already started to modify their race vehicles with longer wheelbases, pneumatic tires, better seats and much more. The competitors are top notch, some even come dressed in full costume. Here is the video from the Auburn Barbie Jeep race where we had over 20 Racers making it our biggest race to date. For more videos visit the Busted Knuckle Youtube Page.

The race course wasn’t as steep as we were used to so we decided to make it a little more interesting. We added “pushers” to the race. One pusher per racer, they would push you down the hill as fast as possible while dodging other racers and pushers . This made for some great action as most of the pushers were ran over  or tripped and tumbled down the course. Good Ole Redneck Fun! We started out racing 8 wide. The first half of the racers to cross the finish line progressed to the next round. After 8 races a 15 year old on a stock barbie jeep was crowned the new champion. The previous champion Matt Myrick was put out of the race in the 3rd round when he wrecked another racer near the finish line. He said “If I ain’t gunna win I might as well put on a show!” We look forward to the next barbie jeep race. Keep up to date with everything Barbie Jeep Racing by becoming a Fan of Barbie Jeep Racing on Facebook.

Getting Better Mileage out of your Tow Rig.

Posted by: Matt | Comments (0)
Monday, April 11th, 2011

Improving Fuel Economy for 4×4 Vehicles

When it comes to that thirsty big-block 454 powering your  buggy, fuel mileage is of little concern. But on your tow vehicle, mileage means a lot. After all, a loaded 4×4 toting a buggy and trailer can really gulp the fuel. Of course, there’s a slew of parts like magnets and catalysts that “claim” fuel savings, which are dubious at best. Luckily, there are others like tonneau covers and air intakes that not only improve MPG; they’re useful in their own right, too.

Increasing Engine Efficiency

Two of the most exciting fuel savers are air intakes and performance chips. Both maximize engine efficiency, and when used together, real gains can be had. And, since you secretly want these performance parts anyway, purchasing ‘em under the guise of fuel savings makes it easier to sneak by a doubtful spouse.

Exhaust System Gains

The third prong in the fuel-saving trident is a performance exhaust system. By lifting back pressure, performance exhaust let’s your power plant breathe easy to improve MPG. And, when used with the above parts, you get serious horsepower and torque, too. Which of course makes it harder to stay off the throttle and save fuel! If you are blowing black smoke out of the exhaust on your diesel, you need to step up the exhaust and intake to cool down your EGTs (Exhaust Gas Temperatures). That black smoke is your engine wasting unburned fuel.

Essential Truck Accessories

Since you’re looking to outfit your tow rig, maybe look into some nerf bars and seat covers, too. These won’t help you in your fuel-saving quest, but they will make your truck more comfortable, useful and stylish. And hey, even if you’re saving fuel, if your truck doesn’t look good, what’s the point?
