We have always been in to Drag Racing as well as Rock Racing. Then we got the idea to put the two together and the results speak for themselves. We contacted the great folks over at Mountain Side Off Road Park in Gadsden, AL about putting on the first ever Hill Climb Drag Race. They set up a nice 150 yard course that included the drivers piloting their way up a huge rock face. Seven drivers entered the race. From the moment the flagger dropped his hands and the engines echoed through the mountain tops, we knew this was going to be great. Each course would be timed. One driver would race in one lane and then swap and race in the opposite lane. Fastest cumulative time took home $1000 cash. The racing was fierce. Big Tim Bacon and his son little Tim were put against each other. This made for some great action as Tim whooped up on his son on both laps in his old school carbureted hill climbing buggy. Tim Cameron’s old Jenny Craig buggy was hauled in all the way from Arkansas by it’s new owner Mark Simpson. He was pitted against Bubba Bacon and his Nasty Purple buggy. Bobby Tanner and his screaming blue buggy had to race against Adam Carter and the Sureclick Ultra4 buggy. Joel had to compete as the odd man out in his silver buggy on sticky Iroks. After two rev limiter pounding rounds of great racing action Big Tim Bacon took the win with his Old School Aetna Buggy and it’s nasty big block motor. After the Race the drivers took the time to see what the park had to offer. All in All the action of the Rock Drag Race was epic and we plan on putting on another race very soon. But don’t take our word for it, check out the videos for yourself. What happens when you take one of the most well known exclusive Off-Road Parties and make it open to the public? EPIC is what happens. RBD a.k.a Ricky B. Day in honor of the young photographers birthday has been a well known invite only event for years. The past videos and photos from this once a year off-road thrill fest made hundreds of people flock to Morris Mountain ORV in Heflin, AL for a chance to get in on the Shenanigans. Here is how it all went down.
Friday
The day started off as a good crowd started to roll into the park and get ready for some great wheeling. The weather was cold, windy, and rainy. This didn’t stop the off-roaders from tearing down the trails and hitting every obstacle in the park. There were numerous rollovers and flops as engines were bounced off their rev limiters on the mud covered climbs. The football fans watched the Iron Bowl on the big screen. People were still rolling in after the sun went down. That’s when the Antics came to life. There were Barbie Jeeps getting towed behind RZRs. A hood with seats and handles welded to it was used for excitement as people went for the ride of their lives around the campground and down the bomber track.
Saturday
More and more people continued to poor into the already packed out campground to witness the most exciting off-road event of the year. That’s right the Mountain Mayhem Competition was scheduled for 10:30 and a crowd of cheering fans covered the hill sides around Los Primos and its infamous double ledge. The driver meeting was held as some of the sport’s top drivers prepared for launch. The course started at the entrance to the gully just at the very bottom of the trail and ended as you topped the double ledge. Each driver got 3 runs and the fastest time wins. Blue Torch Fabworks put up $1000 in prize money and Smith Motorsports threw in an extra $500 to sweeten the deal. You would have thought this race was for a million dollars! The battle for 1st place was between Bobby Tanner, Wes Kean, & Timmie Cameron. Bobby Tanner launched up the double ledge with one of the fastest times but was a little slower in the first section of the course. Wes Kean put on a show as he wheelied through the finish line. Tim Cameron sent his rig flying over 10 feet in the air with one swift punch of the skinny pedal. Wes had his rear tires studded with what looked to be lug nuts? This did not play a huge factor as he broke his transmission in half and cut a rear tire. Wes and the folks at Smith Motorsports didn’t let that slow them down. They swapped both rear tires and hoped the trans would hold on for one final run. It did and it was the fastest run of the day. Sending Wes Kean home King of the Mountain with $1500 Cash in his pocket paid in full at the finish line. For all other venues out there, this is how a REAL competition should be run. I only hope they take note. The $50 each person spent to get into the park for the event wasn’t even in question. I would have paid double that to watch the event again. Luckily for those of you that did not make it, the race will be featured in our new DVD “RockRods” to be released in Early 2011.
Once the comp was over, everyone scrambled back for a great lunch catered bye some great Tennessee folks. (I hope to see them and their hot wings at more events) Then it was an all out race to the trails. Everyone with a rig went out to enjoy the rest of the day with full throttle on their minds. The day was capped off later that night with some birthday cake and a few of our favorite beverages. There was also some more Hell Sledding & Pitbike shenanigans that went on into the night.
Sunday
Everyone awoke and started getting ready to make the long journey back to reality. A few of us stuck around for some last day shenanigans. The Barbie Jeep graveyard was picked of every good vehicle it had & even a few that were questionable. We took some time to modify said vehicles with a sledge hammer, pry bar, and chain saw. We then loaded up our chariots and carried the over to the Los Primos bypass trail for a Downhill Race of epic proportions. Racers faced off two at a time single eliminations style. When the dust cleared and the little pieces of plastic stopped flying through the air, the winner was Busted Knuckle Racing. I took home $18, some stickers, a burger king gift card and a memory of one of the funnest races I have ever been a part of.
Check out all of the pictures and Videos and we will see you guys next year for RBD 2011. I will be there to defend my Barbie Jeepin Title.
We look forward to the W.E. Rock events in Dayton, Tennessee all year long. The first of two events to be held in Dayton this year did not disappoint. Some 3,000 people flocked to this once man made strip mine turned rock crawling paradise. We got to the park about 6pm on Friday and the crowd had already started to roll in despite the unusually cold temperatures. The vendor row was full of great supporters of W.E.Rock including some mighty tasty food.
The Busted Knuckle Media Run that took place at Aetna Mountain in Tennessee was a great success. We had a record turnout make the ride. The mountains were still covered in about 8-10 inches of snow. This made for a whole lot of throttle slamming high horsepower fun! We started the trip with a big traffic jam due to the icy conditions of the main trail that leads up to the property. We eventually made it to peanut butter hole where a few rigs put on a show for the crowd including one with a 10yr old kid at the wheel. That boy could drive like one of the big guns. Once things died down there we headed over to Runway and saw a great show of these buggies slinging snow all over the place as they attempted these steep rocky climbs. After a few rollovers and some full throttle chaos we headed over to Horsepower Hill and Balls Hill. This is where the show really came to life. There were rollovers left and right. Wes Kean put on a clinic on how to tackle these ice and snow covered climbs. If you didn’t have heavily modified tires your did not have a chance. Bobby Tanner gave it the best effort of the day with multiple rollovers, one of which landed his front tire in the passenger seat of Tim Bacon’s buggy. He never made it up but he was sure fun to watch. I thought Wes Kean was going to fly Tim Cameron’s old Green Goblin buggy up Balls Hill because we already know that thing can defy gravity. He gave some good motor screaming attempts but was unsuccessful. Watching a pro like Wes drive a rental made for some great entertainment for the crowd of people that were gathered at the bottom of the hills. Here are some of the videos we got that will go on the Next RockRods DVD. Big thanks to everyone who came out and put on a show for the cameras! Here are most of the videos, keep checking back as we will be adding more videos.
Also you can check out all of the great photos shot at the event by Ricky B Photography by clicking HERE. Check them out. The prints are available for purchase without the watermark in sizes up to 30×40.
This was the most amazing thing we saw all weekend. Bobby Tanner the driver of the Coleworx Screaming Blue buggy rolls over on balls hill and ends up landing on or in Tim Bacon’s passenger seat! Watch as a 44 inch TSL Bogger tire calls shotgun in Tim Bacon’s buggy.
Wes Kean was one of the only rigs to make it up Horsepower hill. His long wheelbase and narrow width axles make his rig climb like no other.
Darryl Jones hits Balls Hill hard in his Superman Samurai Buggy built by Custom Tint & Offroad. The result is one of the nastiest rolls of the day. His front right coilover couldn’t take the abuse any longer and decided to separate from the axle.
Many of you were wondering who bought Tim Cameron’s Green Goblin buggy for straight cash. Well here is a video. The new owner was playing with it in the snow.
The new owner even let Wes Kean take the wheel and give it a full throttle beatdown on Balls Hill. Wes Kean in a Rental is a win for everyone, and he put on one heck of a show.
The Aetna boys decided to show everyone the proper technique for rolling a buggy back over on a side hill. Wow, why have I never thought of that?
Trenton Parks takes a big roll down Balls Hill. This was one of my favorite buggies of the weekend. He rolled it, landed back on the tires, and kept going!
This Red Single Seater buggy had one violent roll down Balls Hill. Look closely, did he hit his head on the cage? He was bouncing around in there like a rag doll.
Woody makes and amazing save while attempting to conquer the snow covered Horsepower Hill. I still do not know how he throttled out of that!

Summertown – New Years Ride Videos
We had a great time at Summertown, Tennessee for the 10th Annual New Years Ride. Saturday was crazy muddy. We barely made it through the parking lot in the 2wd silverado. Luckily the 400ex video capture vehicle did not have a whole lot of trouble. The Tennessee buggies were in attendance and the slippery conditions made for a great show. We also saw the unveiling of a brand new buggy “The John Deere Buggy” built by the minds of Custom Tint & Offroad. This 700hp Monster of a buggy was a sight to see. It had tons of chrome, 14bolt axles, a massive 454 engine, custom John Deere logo beadlock. The saying “nothing runs like a deer is an understatement for this beast. It is setup with remote reservoir coil-overs, 4 link suspension, air bumps and cut 44inch TSLs. The custom interior would make any hotrod builder jealous. But this was more than just a hotrod it was a RockRod. Watch for this ride to be featured in next years RockRods 2 DVD.
Here is a review video of the John Deere Buggy.
And one of it in action.
Girls like to hit the skinny pedal too! Watch as Shelby Tanner rips up Axle Hill in the Screaming Blue Coleworx Buggy.
The Superman Buggy is one of our Favorite buggies of all time. He was there to put on a show with his brand new 500 Horsepower motor. Sounds like it still needs some tuning.
Brian Cole of Coleworx Rock Racing Factory puts on a show with his highlighter buggy aka Purple. The crowd loves it when he lets the Ramjet 502 loose on a climb. The 43″ SX Stickies seem to work well too.
And then there was JOJO Tanner. He can straight up drive. Watch him smoke his way up axle hill in his buggy.
All in all the New Years Ride was a great success. It draws over 3000 people every year and is probably the biggest New Years Day Ride in the South. We will be there with the cameras rolling for next year. Come on out and enjoy the show.

Busted Knuckle Films
Here is a video we put together for an episode of Pirate 4×4 TV live to showcase RBD 2010. The video showcases some of the best drivers in the South including Wes Kean, Tim Cameron, Bobby Tanner and many more. These down home throttle jockeys put the pedal to the floor for the chance to win $1500 cash from Blue Torch Fabrication & Smith Motorsports. We also showcase our favorite offroad pass time…..BARBIE JEEP RACING. Watch as Busted Knuckle takes home the win. This full throttle footage and more will be featured on our year long DVD entitled “ROCKRODS” that will be available in 2011.
Barbie Jeep Racing is one of the most dangerous off-road sports per dollar you can possibly get into. It is also the most FUN. How else can you get this much fun out of 15lbs of plastic! The concept is simple. Take a power-wheels vehicle, break off the drive gear, go to a steep hill, climb aboard and watch the madness unfold. Barbie Jeep Racing is one of our favorite off-road past times. These things can be had for FREE on the side of the road. Believe it or not, People actually throw them out not realizing their full potential. The 2010 RBD event that took place at Morris Mountain ORV in Heflin, Alabama is where we got our first taste of Barbie Jeep Racing. We took home 1st place and are now hooked! Be watching for us to have more downhill barbie jeep races at the off-road events we film in 2011. For now here is how things went down.
Round 1.
Eight Racers dragged their trusty steeds to the top of the Los Primos trail bypass and prepared for battle. First off was the huge Hurricane against Lee Wolfe. After a few crashes the Hurricane made its way across the line first. Next up was Ricky B. in the Pirate 4×4 dune buggy vs. the Red Rocket. They crashed right out of the gate. The collision ended Ricky’s day and sent Red Rocket on to the next round. Next up was Yours Truly in the smallest Jeep of the race against the purple Jeep. I got off to
a slow start but smoked by my competitor as he tumbled down the left side of the course. Last race of Round 1 was Will Carrell vs. the Shuntwerks Jeep. Will had a hellacious wreck at the bottom of the course but still managed to cross the finish line with only 3 wheels left on the jeep. The Shuntwerks Jeep took two hard crashes before it finally made it across the finish.
Round 2
After Round 1 we had 4 racers still in the running. The first race was the Hurricane vs. Red Rocket. The huge Hurricane launched the got off to a blazing start thanks to its size and heavy rider. This extra weight
backfired on the rider as he missed the turn and was catapulted into the woods just above the finish line. The Red Rocket recovered from an early rollover at the top of the course and decided that laying on the jeep was a better approach. His fast thinking let the red rocket just barely beat the hurricane by inches. The second race was Matt Myrick (Me) vs. Will Carrell who had borrowed a rig since his was laying at the bottom of the track in pieces. I got off to a rocky start as I rode the left embankment of the course. To my surprise I rode it out on 3 wheels and took the lead. I was able to pilot my plastic machine down the course unharmed as Will wrecked behind me on his rental rig.
Finals – Round 3
This was it the FINAL ROUND was here. The two smallest little red Jeeps of the bunch were the two left standing. Myself and the Red Rocket Jeep sat at
the top of the hill with our hearts pumping and thoughts of greatness running through our ringing heads. John G. counted us down to the start of the race. With every number my heart pounded harder. Three, two, one, GO! For a moment all you could hear was the screams of the bystanders and the rolling of the plastic wheels as we battled it out to the last second. I managed to make the dreaded left hand turn at the half way point of the track as my competitor lost control and tumbled his way to a stop. I ran through the yellow caution tape that guarded the finish line at breakneck speeds. There I was, a Rookie to this great unknown sport. A sport where an average Joe can show up on any given Sunday with a kids toy and a set of ca-hones, Only to leave with a couple bruises and a memory that he will remember for a life time. Bruises are temporary, First Place is forever.
I accepted my prizes which came out to $12, some RBD stickers, a Burger King Gift Card, and a 15% coupon to Blue Torch Fabworks. It doesn’t seem
like much but If I had it to do all over again I would have raced for a penny. This was a great way to end a great weekend of wheeling & celebrating Ricky’s 21st birthday. We dusted ourselves off and We loaded what was left of our fisher price chariots into the bed of the truck and made our way back to camp. If you want to take on this epic challenge, then we will see you next year at Morris Mountain ORV for RBD 2011. Until then enjoy some of the footage. Don’t forget to check out all of our Youtube videos & Subscribe as well as follow us on the Busted Knuckle Facebook page.

We were on hand to film at the Badlands Off Road Park in Attica, Indiana for their big race of the year also known as UMC when we saw this crazy guy in a Polaris RZR trying to make the “Big Jump”. On his first attempt with his girlfriend sitting beside him he completely cased the jump. She decided to get out of the RZR so she could film him hitting it with a little more speed. This obstacle is not a that tough you just have to hit it with enough speed. The driver eventually found this out first hand when he didnt hit the right speed and just cased the jump with his rear tires. This sent the rear end of the RZR end over end. The driver who wasn’t wearing his seatbelt because ” it was clogged with mud” was thrown from the vehicle. While in the air his loosely fastened helmet came off leaving him unprotected. Much to our surprise he got up and walked away with only minor injuries. If you watch the video you can see where legs hooked the top of the roll cage which just layed him down in the sand. After he came out the RZR cart-wheeled another couple of times before coming to rest over 100 feet away! The RZR was totaled and had to be put on their trailer with a forklift. Check out the videos and subscribe to our youtube page for more great OFFROAD videos!
We would like to add that the accident was in no way the fault of anyone but the driver of the vehicle. This incident took place on an open area of the park and was not during any type of race. Feel free to leave a comment at the bottom of the page if you have any questions.
Here is another look at the crash from farther away.
