Master of Mayhem Competition Videos

Wednesday, July 6th, 2011

Crawl Magazine has been putting out the best Off Road Magazine for years. The only problem is that they are based out of Washington State and rarely find their way to the Southeast. Ian from Extreme 4×4 changed all of this when he became one of three new owners of the magazine. With the help of Essentially Off Road in Murfreesboro, Tennesseee they put on the first ever CRAWL Southern Readers Ride. The ride took place at Mayhem Off Road Park in Mcminnville, Tennessee. We pulled into the park nestled back in the rolling hills around 9:00 am. Some of the baddest buggies the South has to offer were already lining up for the competition. These drivers had their game faces on with one thing on their mind. Becoming the Master of Mayhem and taking home the $1000 grand prize. Some 650 people had decided to join us for a smoldering hot day of hardcore wheeling.  Essentially Off Road aka EOR also had the brand new CRAWL Camaro Buggy there for its debut. This thing was a work of art and included a Turbo charged LS1 under the hood. The course was a tough one consisting of 75 yards of rocks and 2 nasty ledges that would take finesse and a ton of throttle to conquer. The competition was fierce. Parts were being pushed to the braking point and then some. Rollovers were common and so was the smell of smoking tires. After a nasty round of competition the John Deere Buggy driven by Richie Keith was on top. He actually rolled the buggy on the first ledge, but as soon as it landed back on all fours he was off again to make the fastest time of the round. Round two had its fair share of carnage as well. Tim Bacon was driving his son’s Purple Passion buggy and after some full throttle

attempts at the second ledge wound up on his lid. I guess Bubba shouldn’t have called and gave him a hard time about not driving it hard enough! Adam Woodlee

took the lead late in the race in his Ferrari skinned buggy. It came down to one racer Mark Statum in his Coleworx Eleanor Buggy. He let the LS3 scream as he shot his way up the course for the fastest time and took home the $1000 prize. Mark Statum is the 2011 Master of Mayhem. Check out some of the videos below. We had 3 cameras set up for this race and the footage will be included in our next Off Road DVD RockRods 2. The best thing about the entire event was that EOR and CRAWL helped raise thousands of dollars for the Medcamps of Lousiana, a FREE camp for children with disabilities. Way to go guys!

Top 4
1) Mark Statum- Coleworx Eleanor
2) Adam Woodlee – Red Ferrari Buggy
3) Richie Keith – John Deere Buggy
4) Randall Key- Blaze Buggy

Summertown – New Years Ride Videos

We had a great time at Summertown, Tennessee for the 10th Annual New Years Ride. Saturday was crazy muddy. We barely made it through the parking lot in the 2wd silverado. Luckily the 400ex video capture vehicle did not have a whole lot of trouble. The Tennessee buggies were in attendance and the slippery conditions made for a great show. We also saw the unveiling of a brand new buggy “The John Deere Buggy” built by the minds of Custom Tint & Offroad. This 700hp Monster of a buggy was a sight to see. It had tons of chrome, 14bolt axles, a massive 454 engine, custom John Deere logo beadlock. The saying “nothing runs like a deer is an understatement for this beast. It is setup with remote reservoir coil-overs, 4 link suspension, air bumps and cut 44inch TSLs. The custom interior would make any hotrod builder jealous. But this was more than just a hotrod it was a RockRod. Watch for this ride to be featured in next years RockRods 2 DVD.

Here is a review video of the John Deere Buggy.

And one of it in action.

Girls like to hit the skinny pedal too! Watch as Shelby Tanner rips up Axle Hill in the Screaming Blue Coleworx Buggy.

The Superman Buggy is one of our Favorite buggies of all time. He was there to put on a show with his brand new 500 Horsepower motor. Sounds like it still needs some tuning.

Brian Cole of Coleworx Rock Racing Factory puts on a show with his highlighter buggy aka Purple. The crowd loves it when he lets the Ramjet 502 loose on a climb. The 43″ SX Stickies seem to work well too.

And then there was JOJO Tanner. He can straight up drive. Watch him smoke his way up axle hill in his buggy.

All in all the New Years Ride was a great success. It draws over 3000 people every year and is probably the biggest New Years Day Ride in the South. We will be there with the cameras rolling for next year. Come on out and enjoy the show.

Off Road Park Review – Choccolocco ORV

Posted by: Matt | Comments (0)
Wednesday, August 11th, 2010

Choccolocco Mountain Off Road Vehicle Park is located in Jacksonville, Alabama, just one mile from the town square. We recently had the chance to make it out to this park for the Thrills in the Hills Event. This place is just plain ridiculous. We took the sport quads so we could get around easy and film. After a few hours of riding around we had gotten the park figured out so we could easily drive around and see all of the best obstacles. There was even an f-250 superduty that was basically stock roaming around on the main roads.

There is plenty of room to camp in the large wooded campground. There are many primitive camping spaces with fire rings, a covered pavilion, water access, and portable toilets. If camping isnt your thing there are Restaurants, parts stores, propane, and hotels located within three to five minutes of the park.  Every type of off road vehicle; atv’s, side by sides, dirt bikes, four wheel drives, rail buggies, and rock crawlers are welcome. The park is 450 acres of mountains with over 200 trails and obstacles. The trails are rated 1-5, clearly marked, and wide enough for full size vehicles. The 1 & 2′s are easily accessible for atv’s and stock four wheel drives. The 4 & 5′s are extremely difficult, strictly for built rock crawling vehicles only. Over 100 of the trails are great for easy trail riding. There are also plenty of extreme obstacles to play on. All of the extreme trails are accessible through the easy trails.  The park owners state that Choccolocco Mountain is a place where friends and families can come to relax, have fun and enjoy the mountains, wildlife, and scenery & we could not agree more.

CHOCCOLOCCO ORV IS OPEN EVERY WEEKEND!

Saturday and Sunday
Daily Rate: $20 per driver $5 per passenger
Weekend Pass: $30 per driver $10 per passenger
Weekend Pass includes camping
Camping Only: $5 per person

If you are into the extreme side of things then you will definitely have fun with all of the challenging obstacles available at the park. Boat Ramp, the wall, and Hells Revenge are just a couple of the names of the best trails they have. Boat Ramp is a crowd favorite. The trail is exactly as it sounds; it is a huge rock slab on a hillside that has water running down it year round. This makes it slick as all get out. People crowd around this obstacle to watch everyone hammer down and try to make it to the top. It is one of those obstacles that is a must see. The best part is that even a mildly built Jeep can try it!

If you are in a milder built rig you can still have a great time at Choccolocco. You can drive right up to the hardest obstacles at the park and watch all the wild and crazy rigs try to throttle up. If spectating isn’t your thing there are plenty of milder trails to challenge your daily driver rockcrawler all weekend long. Bring your family and or your local club for the weekend.

We had a blast on our trip and cannot wait to take the Tacoma back there for a beat down. We gave the park 4.5 out of 5 knuckles for the great obstacles and nice camping area. If you are looking for a new place to wheel in Alabama then Choccolocco should definitely be on your list. Check the photos below for a park map. If you want to see some Choccolocco ORV videos, just head on over to our youtube page and watch for our DVD coming out soon entitled “RockRods”.

ORV REVIEW – Crusher Ridge, AL

crusher-ridge

  • Hours: 7am to 10pm

  • Number of Trails: 50
  • Acreage: 150 acres
  • ATVs and Side by Sides ok: YES
  • GPS Address:838 Akins Mountain  Road Hartselle, AL 35640
  • Contact Info: Brad-256-303-6911 nextlevelconstruction07@yahoo.com

I remember when Alabama only had one official offroad park. Nowadays it seems like you can’t throw a dart at the state map without hitting one. Crusher Ridge Rockcrawler Park is one of the newest of these off road parks and it is nestled in the hills of Hartselle, Alabama. The park sits on 150 acres of rock ledges. Don’t Let its small size fool you; You can spend all weekend wheeling the more than 50 trails this park has to offer and they still have room to grow.

cr15The park is easily found if you take the Faulkville/Eva exit on I-65 and head east. Take your first left on Mt Zion Road and then take another left on Akins Mountain Road and it will dead end into the park. There are no RV hookups or Bathhouses at present but plans are in the works to make them available in the near future. If you are more of the hotel type, there are some nice ones just 5 miles down the road from the park.

The park allows Rockcrawlers, Atvs, and Side by Sides to come out and enjoy the fun. As far as wheeling goes, this park has something for everyone. It has plenty of nice rock ledges with multiple lines for even the most hardcore of vehicles. The majority of the trails are rated 4 or 5 on a 5 point scale. We found that most of the obstacles were easily accessed by roads that stock jeeps could make it down. Most of the trails are in the shade which makes wheeling during the hottest summer months alot less grueling.

Some of the craziest trails are Cro Wall and Stairway. Crowall is a “bounty hill” which means the first person up it wins some cash and a years free pass to the park. A few people have tried this nasty vertical climb but none have made it. Check below for a video of an orange buggy flipping down crowall.

Another great obstacle at the park is Stairway which is a series of 4 to 5 foot ledges going up the side of a hill. We witnessed quite a few rigs getting denied by this trail while filming the Crusher Ridge Mad Dash for Cash Race.

For all the latest offroad park and event information, check out the “Off Road Park” Section of our Forum. For now check out the videos and pictures below to get a better idea of what this great park has to offer. Plan a trip to Crusher Ridge Rockcrawler Park; You won’t regret it. We gave it a rating of 4 out of 5 because it is a smaller park that has plenty of room to grow. We can’t wait to see what trails Brad and the guys will dream up next.
